Even though everything about this ONE OK ROCK tour shouts “stadium”, Prague had a lot of fun in a smaller club scene where all the fans could bond with the band and have a great night.
But let’s start from the beginning, Japanese rock band, ONE OK ROCK performed in Prague last night as part of a tour for their latest album “Eye of the Storm”, which I highly recommend. There is no need to worry over lyrics since this band wants to get the point across wherever in the world you are, so most of the lyrics are in English.
The band performed with two support acts, which made the “preview” feel little longer, with two-stage adjustments, but the atmosphere at the venue was great and this wasn’t as big of hustle as it could have been. It started with Dan Lancaster, producer and musician who created a great mood setting for ONE OK ROCK, and since he produced some of the bands’ songs, it felt like a very familiar sound. Could pique interest with Chet Faker fans, with more heavier and rockish feel.
Personally, I had a difficult time adjusting to the second support band, which came on stage with a completely different mood – Anteros. This British alt-rock/indie band delivered amazing performance, that goes without saying. Their singer reminded me of the angst girl group era in the late 90s and the sound could quite fit this time as well, its band you should look up.
ONE OK ROCK themselves started performing long after 9 PM, which is a bit unusual, but right from the beginning you just know who owns that stage and how much experience they have. I have been listening to this brilliant band for around 10 years now and they never cease to amaze me with their both lyrical and musical power.
The band performed songs from their new album, and it was very pleasant to see the majority of the fans knowing the lyrics, as well as some of their huge hits from previous records, such as “We Are”, “Clock Strikes” or “I was King”.
The whole performance was really brilliant, we got to see the instrumental break as well, leaving more space for Toru (guitar), Ryota (bass) and Tomoya (drums) to show all their power. The singer, Taka, led the whole show amazingly and sang his heart out for Czech but also international fans who came to the Prague show, creating an amazing atmosphere and new and hopefully strong bond with the audience.
The only thing I would change would be less support more main band. I love discovering new bands that the experience artists take under their wings on tours, but still, the
ONE OK ROCK time felt so short and quick since the show ended little after 23:00.
You can still catch ONE OK ROCK on their European tour in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and France. Or later in July, you can see them on their US Tour or Japan tour during Autumn, and I highly recommend it. Get your TICKETS here.
