Daughter are pleasantly haunting

Daughter - Press Images - March 2012 - LondonIndie is everywhere these days, it’s an easy enough sentence, since it’s true. But to distinguish indie you would remember, that is turning out to be difficult.

English, but actually international, indie band “Daughter” just released their second studio album and it’s no less perfect than their debut. The atmosphere presented on this records hits you right from first song called “New ways”.

Daughter new album “Not to Disappear” has both parts of journey very strong, singers Elena Tonra, vocals haunts you and keeps you on edge of story her soft and beautiful voice carries on it’s tones. For you geeks out there, her vibrato is a sheer perfection and gives beautiful tone to each word she sings.

Her voice is accompanied by what could easily pass as fine post-rock music, combined with nice ambient and synth tones. The whole album is very pleasant easy listening that offers you haunting music with plenty emotions and stories, which to me is an important element, so often missing in plenty albums.

So if you feel one of those melancholy days, or perhaps feel like taking a walk in this by some gloomy, by me beautiful snowy weather, to feel the mood, this would be perfect.

With all respect to the Wiki, I would not call this an indie folk. But hey, “humans and our little categories”, right?

Is dream pop still a term to be used? If so, this could quite qualify as destined category. After all, Daughter do share bits of reminiscence to their equal in quality, “The XX”.

But back to the indie problem, this album does not carry a melody you would immediately remember, but it makes you feel, and it takes you to far away places, which is an equally powerful tool of music, and Daughter can certainly deliver.

  1. […] 2. DAUGHTER – NOT TO DISAPPEAR  2. ALBUM / POST-POP – INDIE / 15.1.2016  Daughter are such and interesting band, even though they release albums slowly it’s always worth the wait. This band has really nice moments when you think it’s post-pop or post-rock album, but then you hear the dreamy voice of Elena Torna who delivers powerful lyrics in a very melancholic atmospheric album which is worth your time.
