49 years ago, British band The Rolling Stones recorded their hit single – Get Off of My Cloud” – which followed their possibly most famous song ‘‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” which was recorded on May and released on June 1965.

”Get Off of My Cloud” was an answer on bands growing audience and rising fame and hysterics. As such, it presents rebellion in music they have presented to the fans.

Song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and it’s iconic music sound it tight with Charlie Watts drum intro that follows through whole song accompanied by Keith Richards and Brian Jones twin guitar melodies.

I live on an apartment
An the ninety-ninth floor of my block
And I sit at home lookin’ out the window
Imaginin’ the world has stopped

Then in flies a guy
Who’s all dressed up just like the Union Jack
And says, I’ve won five pounds
If I have his kind of detergent pack

I said, “Hey, you, get off of my cloud
Hey, you, get off of my cloud
Hey, you, get off of my cloud
Don’t hang around ’cause two’s a crowd
On my cloud baby”

Single became an instant hit and remained for several weeks on top of music charts in US, UK and Germany. It came out second in Australia and Ireland. In Australia they did came first in the same year with singles ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ and ‘Under the Broadwalk’/’Walking the Dog’ in Ireland they have topped chart with ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’) in 1965.

For example in my home country, former Czechoslovakia, single became known though pirate radios but was forbidden (as was all western music). Any Rolling Stones music was not released before the Velvet Revolution in 1989, year later the band visited Czechoslovakia for the first time accompanied by former president Václav Havel.

In the Rolling Stones book ‘According to … The Rolling Stones’ released in 2003 band describes their single with following words: ‘Get off of My Cloud’ was basically a response to people knocking on our door asking us for the follow-up to ‘Satisfaction’… We thought, ‘At last. We can sit back and maybe think about events.’ Suddenly there’s the knock at the door and of course what came out of that was ‘Get off of My Cloud’.”

The telephone is ringin’
I say, “Hi, it’s me, who is it there on the line?”
A voice says, “Hi, hello, how are you?
Well, I guess I’m doin’ fine”

 It’s three a.m., there’s too much noise
Don’t you people ever wanna go to bed?
‘Cause you feel so good
Do you have to drive me out of my head?

I said, “Hey, you, get off of my cloud
Hey, you, get off of my cloud
Hey, you, get off of my cloud
Don’t hang around ’cause two’s a crowd
On my cloud baby”

I was sick and tired, fed up with this
And decided to take a drive downtown
It was so very quiet and peaceful
There was nobody, not a soul around

I laid myself out
I was so tired and I started to dream
In the mornin’ the parkin’ tickets were just like a flag
Stuck on my windscreen

  1. […] 6. ROLLING STONES – BLUE& LONESOME 23. ALBUM / BLUES / 2.12.2016 I never quite believed that we’d actually see Blue & Lonesome, yet here we are. This album is such a beautiful tribute to the blues music and it’s roots that the Stones know and love very much. And you can really feel it from this record. The first name that popped to my head when I first heard the album was Howlin’ Wolf, one of my absolute favorite bluesmen and this record goes in that very manner, you hear some of the classic early stones in this album, but it’s really mostly blues appreciation, so be ready. As blues goes, this is joy listening to. […]
